Thanks to Ken Dobson for reporting and photographing a white-letter hairstreak (Satyrium w-album) butterfly on Calton Hill on 11 July 2025.
This butterfly feeds on elms and is found on tree tops. Distribution maps don’t show it in Scotland, but it is present throughout England and Wales. The <www.ukbutterflies.co.uk> website tells us that it “is not found in Scotland” — until now!
