The Plant and Tree Survey Walk on Saturday 6 July, will start from the National Monument at 10.00

By Simon on 26 June 202426 June 2024

As in May, our botanist Ben Averis will be leading our summer survey walk.

Ben writes: ” . . . if anyone would like to bring any plant identification books, that’s fine. If people have hand lenses that would be good too. We will make a list of the plant species we see and in the process I can help interested people with any identification matters that arise and we can see what the flora tells us about the site (soils, history, etc).”

We will also be talking about our project to map the vegetation of the hill as part of a general biodiversity plan

Ben Averis is the author of Plants and Habitats: An introduction to common plants and their habitats in Britain and Ireland (2013).

All are welcome. Non-members will be asked to make a small donation — or better still become members! Please write to <chair@friendsofcaltonhill.org> to reserve a place. Coming just two days after the general election, a gentle walk looking at plants may be a very relaxing experience!
