The Invertebrates (Insect) Survey Walk on Saturday 25 May, will start from the National Monument at 10.00

By Simon on 18 May 202418 May 2024

As in September, entomologist Craig Macadam of Buglife Scotland will be leading the spring walk.

Craig writes: “This walk will focus on pollinating insects such as bees, butterflies, hoverflies as well as lesser known pollinators. Nets and collecting tubes will be provided however if anyone has a hand lens it can be useful to use one to get a close up view of the insects. We’ll explore the grasslands areas of the hill and also look at any shrubs and trees that are in flower. We’ll make a list of the species found which will help the Friends of Calton Hill to plan biodiversity improvements on the site.”

All are welcome. Non-members will be asked to make a small donation — or better still become members! Please write to <chair@friendsofcaltonhill.org> to reserve a place.
