The Edinburgh Nature Network at the Edinburgh Green Spaces Forum, 20 November 2023

By Simon on 21 November 202315 December 2023

City of Edinburgh Thriving Greenspaces Project officers introduced the Edinburgh Nature Network at the Edinburgh Green Spaces Forum (EGSF) on 20 November.

Edinburgh Nature Network have a pilot project connecting six Leith parks (Tolbooth Wynd, Mill Lane Park, Taylor Gardens, Keddie Gardens, North Junction Street Park, Dalmeny Street Park). The project also involves the Scottish Wildlife Trust and the University of Edinburgh (see here.)

This ‘nature network’ approach is in line with past community council discussions about urban biodiversity, ‘green justice’, and the involvement of schools and communities in improving and managing the environment — also about establishing green corridors for wildlife through the city.

The Friends hope that Calton Hill can be included in the Edinburgh Nature Network in the near future.

Neighbouring Lochend Loch offers a great contrast to Calton Hill — this is a place where you can see many different kinds of water birds at close quarters
