The drains on the north side of the hill, beside Greenside Church on Blenheim Place, are now unblocked

By Admin on 25 September 202413 December 2025

We are grateful to the Council Roads Operations, who manage the councils roads drainage infrastructure, for clearing the long-blocked two drains (‘gullies’) at the northern entrance to the hill on Blenheim Place, beside Greenside Church.

These drains are important as they take the rainwater runoff from the north side of the hill that comes off Greenside Path, Regent Gardens Path and the land in between. They become blocked with gravel and earth that is washed down, due to the poor condition of the paths.

We now have just one remaining blocked drain on the top of Calton Hill Drive! Although it is easily accessible, we understand that Roads Operations don’t take responsible for this one because the drive is not ‘adopted’ by the council. This is also the reason why they are no council controls on the car parking on top of the hill.
