Test removal of ivy growing on the ground along Greenside Row, 7 November 2025

By Admin on 7 November 20258 November 2025

Three volunteers removed ivy (Hedera helix) growing on the ground just above the stone wall alongside Greenside Row in the southwest corner of Calton Hill, on 7 November 2025.

This was a test removal using loppers and a sturdy steel rake — it was hard work cutting through thick and extensive surface roots. About 50 square metres of ivy was cleared in two hours.

We will be interested to see what other plants emerge once the ivy has gone.
