Re-grassing project completed for Spring 2024: 160 square metres of turf laid

By Simon on 6 February 20247 February 2024

After the first 100 m2 of new turf laid in January on bare sections of the hill, we added another 60 m2 last week. This completes our work — and exhausts our Community Grant budget! We have re-turfed four areas — two in front of the Playfair Monument, one behind the City Dome, and one by the Dugald Stewart Monument.

The 160m2 represent roughly about 15% of the total eroded area on the hill. We will now rope it off for six weeks for protection. The next large event is the Beltane Festival in three months time (on 30 April) which should give plenty of time for the grass to bed in and root successfully.

Despite the awful weather — first the cold and then the storms — we’ve been laying earth and new turf on severely eroded sections of the hill
