Motion by Councillor Bruce: Defibrillators: Saving Lives
“1) To ask the Council to bring a report back in 3 cycles to the Policy and Sustainability Committee to review the current approach for installing defibrillators; to consider novel and innovation approaches to increase the availability of defibrillators across the city, not limited to how power could be used from the streetlights to increase the number of locations; to work with community councils to identify locations where it would be beneficial to install defibrillators and to consider any financial impact of a change of policy.
2) To ask that the report also investigate working collaboratively with all other defibrillator owners to create an interactive location App for general distribution.
3) To agree that said report should include costs for the maintenance of existing council owned defibrillators, to provide a maintenance schedule, to provide an easily accessible public available listing and map of defibrillators on the council website, and provide appropriate signage near the location of defibrillators, and note other organisations that provide such services.
4) To agree to signpost BHF “application for a free defibrillator for your community” to community councils, faith organisations, charities, and other eligible organisations to apply.
5) To ask the City of Edinburgh Council to consider developing a single, standalone “defibrillator policy” document including but not limited to the installation of new defibrillators in new council controlled buildings and spaces, and to submit to the Policy and Sustainability Committee for approval within 3 cycles.”
