Defibrillator heart restarter to be installed on Calton Hill

By Admin on 26 January 202626 January 2026

Thanks to the Galashan Foundation, we’ve received a donation for a defibrillator heart restarter. The City of Edinburgh Council Property & Facilities Management unit engineers visited the hill on 8 January and have kindly offered to manage the installation.

The council are now looking at locations where the defibrillator can be made readily accessible at all times. Housed in a frost-proof, illuminated box, it will require a minimal electrical current, supplied by a solar panel or a direct lead.

The Trust are remain strongly committed to doing everything possible for the health, safety and wellbeing of visitors. An accessible defibrillator on the hill is long overdue. We hope to have one there very soon.

Photos: The combination of a Swiss Schiller FRED PA-I with a DefibSafe2 case as illustrated is similar in type to the kind of unit we may use.
