Thank you again to Ross Chalmers of Deadline News for taking an interest in local government and the care of our parks and greenspaces.
Responding to the passing of a plan for ‘Grant Funding for ‘Friends of’ and Trusts’ by a City of Edinburgh committee of elected city councillors, we were quoted as saying:
“Calton Hill Conservation Trust were underwhelmed by the prospect of the council Culture and Communities Committee awarding a hypothetical £50,000 divided among 85 community groups, from an as yet unidentified source, at a yet unidentified date. . . City councillors say many wonderful and fine things about the volunteers who work for free to maintain the green spaces, which we deeply appreciate — but to quote or misquote George Bernard Shaw, ‘why don’t they try money?’”
The story appears here. Deadline News previously covered the ‘erosion emergency’ called by the Trust in September.
