Council propose Portakabin toilet bloc for Calton Hill

By Admin on 29 March 202629 March 2026

The council are proposing to replace the controversial portaloos on Regent Walk with a Portakabin toilet block at the east end of Hume Walk, just above the Regent Gardens tone steps (see map).

The Council report to the Calton Hill Forum was as follows:

“Portaloos – provision to continue until a better short-term solution is sought. Costs sought for Portakabin style provision with tanked water and waste with independent power supply. Location proposed is behind bollards at overflow: Portakabin will be secured of an evening and opened first thing. There is an awareness that this is not a long-term solution with costs likely to be significantly more than Portaloos. Senior management aware of the longer-term needs/resolution and that stakeholder engagement is required.”
