Controversial portaloos moved from the National Monument to Regent Walk

By Admin on 10 September 202510 September 2025

Edinburgh Council have moved the four controversial portaloos from the National Monument to the west end of Regent Walk — as requested by the Calton Hill Conservation Trust and heritage bodies.

We don’t think the new site is ideal. Security would have been simpler if they’d been relocated to hard standing in the top car park. However we are certainly pleased they have been moved.

We hope the council will maintain them — at night as well as during the day — and not allow them to become a focus for anti-social behaviour. We have been assured that they are temporary. We hope this will be the case.
