Bollards are now being considered for Calton Hill Drive

By Admin on 9 February 2025

A system of two sets of bollards and a one-way track between them is now under consideration by the council for vehicular access to Calton Hill. The photo shows a possible control unit and the retractable bollards. We understand that the bollards may be placed at 1.2 metre intervals to comply with HVM (‘hostile vehicle mitigation’) requirements.

The Trust believe that the software options should be decided on at the same time as the hardware. Moreover it’s vital that the future entry system is sustainable and convenient for users, including including disabled people. In our view that means it should be automatic and not monitored in real time.
