The 26th of April is the birthday of Agnes ‘Nancy’ Maclehose (26 April 1758-23 October 1841) of whom Robert Burns wrote — I’ll ne’er blame my partial fancy, Naething could resist my Nancy — & more famously — Ae fond kiss, and then we sever; Ae fareweel, alas, for ever! — she lived at 16 Calton Hill from 1810-1841.
The portrait is from the National Galleries of Scotland Collection.
